William Carpenter of Rehoboth
The earliest Carpenter, from our family tree, to live in what is now the United States, was William Carpenter, b.1605. His father, William Carpenter, b. 1576 in Wiltshire, Howells, England came across the Atlantic with him, and is known as the Progenitor of the Rehoboth Carpenters (us).
The William of Rehoboth family came over on the ship 'Bevis' in 1638. sailing from Southampton, Eng. The elder William traveled with his son. William, his son's wife, Abigail 'Briant", and their children. It has been said by some that son William and his family were dissenters, and were obliged to leave the city of London.
William, the father, helped his son look for and buy land in New England. He then, according to some genealogists, returned home to England on the return voyage of the ship 'Bevis'. Evidently, his only concern was in seeing his son safely settled into his new country. ( No evidence has been found, however that he arrived in England. Some say that he went down with the ship 'Bevis', others, that he remained in Mass. )
The Bevis shipping list on file at the British Museum in London England includes this entry. "Southampton; 1638. The certified list of passenger's names gone for New England with 61 passengers aboard...... William Carpenter of Horwells, England, age 62, William, his son, age 33, his son's wife, Abigail, four children, ages 10 and under, servant, Thomas Banshort, age 14."
The four children of William who came on the ship Bevis were; *John, Samuel, William, and Joseph. Our line continues through *John Carpenter.......

They are of the family of Richard B. Davies, the first Davies in our line to immigrate to the USA from Wales. Richard's Uncle was the noted; Rev. David Davies: Maesyrhelem. A well known Baptist minister in the province of Montgomeryshire. Wales. Below is a copy of a drawing of his home. This home (which once was an inn) is still lived in by one of his descendants, Frances Lewis, his great grand daughter. Though modernized inside, it still looks very much as it did in 1850's.

About the Current Carpenter Family of this Website.
I've been researching the Carpenter and Davies and related families for about eight years. I knew very little when I started. It turned out to be a great adventure. Our family lives in Southern California. We have discovered Carpenter Relatives living in New York, still in the same area our Carpenters lived in the 1700s. I have found Davies relatives living in Wales, still in the same area my great grandfather was born in in 1840. The family has lived there at least since the late 1700s. We have one son living within a couple of hours of us. He has a wonderful wife and one daughter, our grandchild, age 19. Our oldest son, whose photo and a small memorial is below, died this year in an accident, when a car struck his bike. He loved bicycling since he was a preschooler. We were privileged to have his company and love for nearly 47 years. Our family considers it an honor to be a part of the Carpenter and Davies family.Dawn

Vernon Carpenter
At long last we have a photo of
Vernon Carpenter .
Photo sent by Yvonne
Graham, grand daughter
Vernan was an uncle to my husband Keith Carpenter, and a brother to Merle Carpenter, Keith's father.
Vern was born in Polk Co. Nebraska in May, 1880 and died Aug. 6, 1913. He married Enore Warren in Butler Co. NE on Nov. 6, 1911. He died before his nephews were born and the Carpenter family had no photo of him
until his grand daughter contacted us..
A Note to Yvonne:
"Thank you again for Vern's photo. You getting in touch with us was an outstanding event. We think of you often."
